Library, Communication and Information Facilities:

Established in the year 1996, the Central Library at Bageshwori Campus and the Clinical Library at the CMS Teaching Hospital comprise the major units of the college library system.  These libraries cater to the teaching and research needs of the pre, para and clinical faculty as well as to the learning needs of all the students. The libraries have a rich collection of more than 4,000 textbooks and reference books in various disciplines of medicine. A large collection of old books is also maintained for meta-analysis and research purposes.

The college subscribes to 40 medical journals including the Journal of the Nepal Medical Association and other national and international publications. There are also over 300 copies of reports, theses, proceeding, of seminars, conferences, symposia, workshops and training programs in 12 different categories. These include personal contributions in the field of research on the part of several faculty members and publications of organizations such as UNICEF, WHO, FAO and HMG-Nepal. All students and members of the staff including staff of other hospital are eligible for library membership.

The library remains open round the year from 9:00 am to 12:00 midnight. Beside, the Central and Clinical libraries in each department and the associated hospitals of CMS maintain departmental libraries for the use of faculty members and students.

All the libraries are computerized and it is planned to provide an inter-library loan service in association with various other leading libraries in the country.  Computer facilities available at present include CD-ROM, Internet, E-mail, DTP and LAN. A personalized information service and photocopying facilities are also available. The library offers a congenial environment for study and research to about 400 students, all members of faculty and staff. In order to ensure smooth and easy access to information the librarians are always accessible to help the members in finding any books or written material that they may be needed. The College of Medical Sciences Library is also having online connection with HINARI web site where we can get access to 17,000 full text medical journals.

Clinical and Academic Activities: 

The students participate in ward rounds and attend the seminars and symposia held in the college. They will be required to present cases and take active part in discussions. They will also attend health camps, which are held on a regular basis. They can be involved in the treatment of cases under supervision. Apart from working in the hospital, we could attach students to the Department of Community Medicine (Public Health) - wherein they can accompany the undergraduate students to the community / field practice areas and health posts as well as assist in the rural medical camps. The Community Medicine allot the Interns research projects for their hand on experience and collect the basic data of the field practice area. 

General Facilities:

1) Amenities

Each and every department has been provided with spacious faculty cubicles with comfortable furniture. Every department has its own Department Office and Departmental Library with adequate books. A separate area is earmarked in each department for storing consumables, glassware and chemicals etc.

2)  Lecture Halls:

The college has already seven lecture halls. Each of the lecture halls can accommodate over 150 students at a time  and are provided furniture and latest audio-visual equipment. The lecture halls are well ventilated and have enough of natural light. At present these halls are also used as Auditoriums. We are planning for a good modern Auditorium to accommodate 800 people in our Master plan which is to come up in the near future.

3) Hostels, Mess and Other Physical Facilities:

The College of Medical Science has 15 bungalow type of blocks containing five rooms in each, accommodating about 200 students from the Basic Sciences, in the “Bageshwori Campus”, which is located near the Royal palace on the Devghat road, set amidst the greenery of Chitwan forest by the bank of the Narayani.. There are separate enclaves for  male and female students. The Boy’s and Girl’s hostel wardens are housed within these blocks as well as some senior professors are also accommodated in the Campus. There is a guest room for the parents of the students and a waiting room has been provided for other visitors. The campus Hospital which is attended to by qualified doctors provides emergency medical services to the students and staff whenever it is required. One vehicle is always placed in the campus to meet emergency needs and to take students and staff to the hospital in case hospitalization is required. The campus has double supply of safe drinking water from the municipal source. A second water supply system also exists, from a neighboring “khola”. This water is supplied for bathing and washing purposes, is done so, after filtration and chlorination. The College has also having two more separate Hostels for Girls near the Hospital complex. All Hospitals provides good mess/canteen facilities to both students and staff with various types of food preparations such as Nepali, South Indian, North Indian, Chinese, Continental and others. The food is prepared under stringent hygienic supervision and is of a high quality by way of both nutrition and taste.

The electric supply and heating of the rooms are adequate in all hostels. During the time of load shedding, the generator provides the electricity supply to the campus. Apart from about 200 clinical sciences students living in Bharatpur or Narayangarh town in private houses rented on an individual basis. However, the college authorities supervise the food and sanitation of these private homes from time to time in order to ensure a comfortable stay and healthy living for the students.

Students Amenities Center:

In order to facilities students to buy their requirements, stationary and snakes etc., a small student’s Amenities center is functioning within the Bageshwori Complex. We have plans to upgrade this soon.

General Administration:

The college has a well qualified and experienced administrative staff. The Principal’s administrative Office is located in the CMS Teaching for the convenience of staff, students and public. Different sections of the College including the Personal, Establishment and General Administration, Fiscal and Planning, Medical Education Wing, Academic and Examination Cell, Public Relation Office, Central Stores and Purchase Section and Estate Office are also located in the same premises.

Miscellaneous:

1. Amenities

In addition to, we have several other departments like Maintenance Engineering, Maintenance of civil construction, Computer Maintenance etc., assisted by well-trained technical staff. These departments maintain continuous supply of safe drinking water. The generators are also available for emergency power supply both in the Bageshwori and Hospital complexes as well as in the Hostels.

2.  Transport :

There is a fleet of buses and other vehicles for the College and Hospital for transporting students, faculty and staff between the various campuses.

3.  Security:

The security department is headed by a retired Army Officer. He is assisted by a group of dedicated security guards, who are working round the clock to maintain the safety of life and property of the institution.
